    Green Bay Packers Tickets

In 1919, a group of young men met together to discuss the founding of what would become one of the most storied franchises in the history of professional football. The meeting was called by George Calhoun and Curly Lambeau. The plan to start a football team was prompted by casual conversation, but quickly caught steam, and the group was determined to forge ahead.

During this time, Curly Lambeau worked for the Indian Packing Company as a shipping clerk. The group decided that they would ask the company to sponser the team’s jerseys. The company agreed and allowed the young men to practice on its’ athletic field. In return, the team served as publicity for the company, and the team was named the “Packers.”

The first season, the team saw a lot of success. The Packers went 10-1 that first year and played against teams from Michigan and Wisconsin. In 1921, due to the success of the team, the packing company, along with Lambeau sought to purchase a franchise in the national professional football league. However, due to a lack of financial support from fans, the team was forced to shut down by the year’s end. The next year for $250, Lambeau and other financial backers re-purchased the franchise for $250.00. It was from this tumultuous period that one of the most successful and well supported franchises was birthed.

The Green Bay Packers’ most successfull periods are probably those led by Vince Lombardi and Mike Holmgren. Vince Lombardi won world championships for the Green Bay Packers in 1961, '62, '65, '66, and '67. During the time between 1960 and 1970, the team never came in lower then second place. Lombardi posted an outstanding 75% career winning percentage. Mike Holmgren helped the Green Bay Packers restore their greatness and dominance, beginning in 1992. With Brett Favre as quarterback, the team won a world championship in 1996. Within a three year period, the team competed in three straight Super Bowls.

Today, Mike McCarthy, is the coach of the Green Bay Packers. He was hired in 2006 and became the 14th coach of the team. In 2008, he led the team to the NFC championship game, which they dropped to the New York Giants, who will represent the conference in the Super Bowl.

The founding of the Green Bay Packers in 1919, which started during a casual conversation between a group of young athletes, has become a model, winning franchise that has won over the loyal and passionate support of it’s city and the region. Football greats such as Brett Favre, Reggie White and Curly Lambeau have helped to firmly establish the franchise’s lore and respectability.
